I can still remember Harmans Water From 4 Yrs Ago!! At The Moment I'm In Yr 7 In Burnham Gramar Secondary School!

wow! I went to this school 2 years ago...... I searched throughout the 2 years to look for this website! I miss the school like I am homesick. To never forget the schools name
I made all of the id's I have, harmanswater, I just wish I can visit every single teacher I had here. Now that I found this website, I am going to write here always.

Your school still displays such excellence and always will. Bethany our daughter who is now in year 8 at Ranelagh will never forget her time at Harmans Water, we still visit when you have different events and check in on your website every now and then.
When will you have a vacancy? Although our children are grown up now I would still like to work at Harmans Water and this is the only school in Bracknell that I would go to given the chance. I'll keep looking.

Hi, I am yet another old pupil, i left in in 1996 just as the infants and junior school amalgamated. Am now a maths teacher and have fond memories of harmanswater (especially maths during year 5 and 6 with Mrs Duncan!). I think a lot of staff are still at the school from the 90s and wonder if any remember me??? :)

Hi everyone. I went to this school over 10yrs ago. Im now 24 and have 3 children of my own. i left to go to garth in 1994. my fave teacher was mrs haynes.

i do miss it and was hoping that my children would go here, but they go to birch hill as i live 5 mins from there.

Hello everybody at HWPS. id like to say i think what all of the teachers is fantastic my son has learnt so much more at this school than his other school........but i do feel communication within the school to home needs to be improved its not nice for a child to miss out on an activity or have lack of tools because they are expected to relay infromation back home verbally, a small piece of paper with information in there book bags would help or a small diary for each pupil to add these small activities that a child could enter in the end of the day before leaving school so parents do have the information.......kind regards a concerened parent

It has been lovely to look around your web site. I was a young teacher at Harmans Water Infants and then the Primary School teaching from 1987 to about 2000. I have so many happy memories of the school and of teaching there. I would love to know what everyone is doing now. Some of you may have known me as Miss Thompson or Mrs Dodds. I went to Harmanswater a VERY long tiome ago, and still have very fond memories. I'm now almost 22 and working for the fire brigade answering 999 calls. Came accross this site when a friend (Ben Thamas, also harmanswater veteran, Mrs Thomas' son!!) sent me a link via facebook. There is a dedicated page called, 'I was educated at Harmanswater primary school, thus am smarter than you!' Just wanted to say a huge hello to Miss Hooley, she taught me the art of teddy bear making and recorder?! hehe. And also, if Miss Smith has returned from her teaching trip in Nepal, hello!! I found letters the other day from her as we used to write! Anyway, getting a bit carried away here!! Better get back to work! xx

Hello all!
I was a pupil at Harmans Water between 1966 and 1972, reading the 40th aniversary comments brough back so many happy memories of snakes in the woods, poking massive wood ant nests whilst on nature trips, playing on the 'mud hills' falling off the huge cement pipes in the playground and stoking the fire that Mr Hall used to leave burning in an oil drum at the rear of the infants.
I remember when a high pressure water pipe was being laid through the forest it had burst and sent a jet of water into the air that seemed 100s of feet high - great excitement!
My fondest memory is that of Mrs. Randle, I often think about her, she was so kind and encouraging!

It's been a loooooong time since i went to HArmans Wter (well i'm 19 now so that shows how long ago it was!!!) Mr Chesters was my teacher (not that anyone will remember me lol) and it's real nice to see that he's still there he's an amazing teacheri can still remember he taught me how to play the guitar!!! i had such a big crush on him when i was there!! Also nice to see Mrs Hayes is still there, i went to the school with her son!!!! i can remember when Michael Jacksons Earth song was released and we listened to it when we had our assembley. The school is amazing and the teachers are better. It's amazing what you can remember. Nice to see my old teachers!! luv em xx

Hey Harmans Water ! I'm about to head into Year 12, can't believe I used to come to this school. I left when I was in Year 4 and I had Miss Hull who was an ace teacher. bit of nostalgia going on here! I'm at University now, but I used to go to Harmans Water Primary School(well used to be junior and infant before it amalgamated when i was in year 6) I'm actually in the middle of training to be a Primary school teacher (!!) at University College Worcester. I've tried to get in touch with a couple of old teachers to say hello through friends reunited, but it seems that site doesn't like me very much. I used to be in Mrs Millers(Yr3&4), Mrs Lee(Yr5) (before africa- do people still hear from here) Mrs Kingmans(Yr1&2) (I'm so glad she's still working there, it wouldn't be the same without her- wonder if she remembers me!!) and Miss Hooleys class. Being trying to get in contact with Miss Hooley (Yr6)through friends reunited, but it hasn't worked. Please say hello to her for me!

I left about two or three weeks before Alfriston and I was gutted. i got alot of pictures of my last day of school and got a picture of mrs Thomas. i hope all the year 6's (that are now going to be year 7's) are going to have a good time at their new school and hope they enjoy it. I was sorry about the fire at the school near around its 40th birthday.

Happy 40th !
I was one of the first pupils at the school , joining aged 8 ( 2nd year or whatever they call it these days) when the school opened Great memories used to live 2 minutes away in Little Ringdale. We all used to walk to school on our own, apart from when a broadmoor patient had escaped and our parents thought on balance it best we were walked to school !

othe memories
- - rusty old fire engine in the playground ( cuts,lacerations and overall great fun...wonder what today's health and safety lobby would say !!!)
-- being given the slipper by Mr Bristow( headmaster) for being one of the ringleaders in a sit down strike, when a teacher wanted the playground for netball at lunch time ( Football ruled !) and getting hit again when i told him that i didn't deserve it
-- Billy Butlin building a swimming pool the year after I left for Garth
-- turreens of cabbage dutifully put out every other lunchtime and going back full ( yuk!)
-- getting my Mum into trouble( she worked briefly in the kitchen) when I described in my school diary the wonderful puddings she brought home from work !
-- the best teacher of the lot..Mr Gardiner, who was great with the kids and I once rather embarrassingly called 'dad instead of 'sir'!
-- the aggressive Mr Melson who made you forget your own name when he asked you a question!!
-- geese kept for a 'farmyard area' apparently designed to attack children at will

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARMANSWATER SCHOOL I was at the school 1965-1969
I had a wonderful time at the school which provided me many happy memories.
My previous school was very formal and rigid so to come to Harmans Water and have a much more balanced education was super.
I remember Lucy and Larry the sheep who were shorn in the summer with all the class on the field to watch. Gladys the goose and other assortments. I did look after a slow worm one summer(and it came back alive)
Mrs Mcculloch ran the pottery classes and we had our kiln, so all sorts of items were made from snakes to vases. Mr Hall had a great Traction Engine which was used as a float in the Binfield Carnival. It was decorated as a pirate ship with all us junior pirates on board and I can remember the mast being so tall it had difficulty navigation the telegraph lines.
Mrs Randall used to take us on nature walks through the Crown Estate long before the Lookout arrived.I believe the school was allowed a key to the gates at that time. I find those memories a bit sad as Mrs Randall is no longer with us and Crown Wood estate has been built.
Mr Terise and Miss Riley made the most impression on me.
Miss Riley would always hold my hand and walk through the corridors(which seemed much larger then) singing "The Windmills of your mind" by Noel Harrison.
Mr Terise really got our imaginations going when the first moon landings happend
and he had a class in the hall(I think) which was partitioned off. He also led alot of school trips.
The swimming pool was very good as it enabled me to get all my swimming badges which were presented in the hall by Mr Bristow.
The school dinners were ahead of their time. We had salads with nuts, raisins and shredded carrot etc. Lots of healthy food and wonderfuly Gypsy tart(im still looking for that recipe) I cannot remember the cooks name but she was great.
My brother John Chiverton and my son Mark also went to the school so we liked to keep it in the family.
It was for me the best school ever and once again Happy birthday and hope to see you at the fete.

Happy 40th Birthday. I was there between 1965 and 1970. The teachers I can remember were Mr. Gardener, Mrs.Wilson and Mrs. Coleshill. School dinners and in particular the desserts were geographically and culturally diverse, they ranged from Manchester Tart, Bakewell Tart to Gypsy Tart . All topped off with a variety of different flavoured custards. Does anyone remember the Westland helicopter landing on the fields at the back of what was the old Infants school. The school trips were excellent, we went to the Roman Villa at Fishbourne and the Science and Natural History Museums .
I remember being given the choice of a Ladybird book as a prize for good work from Mr. Bristow, the Headmaster. I learnt to swim at the newly built swimming pool and I dropped the baton at Sports day. I lived in Easthampstead and my brother Andrew and I caught the 53A bus to school each day. I hope these memories give you a snapshot of what life was like at Harmans Water back in the Sixities.

I used to go to Harmans water but i left in year 4 and moved up here to dover. At this skool Patsy was my best mate and i will never forget here neve eva. Anybody remmber the goose Gladys? I think I was one of the few people that could get near it.

Happy Birthday Harmanswater. I started in the infants aged 5 in September 1964.
My first teacher was Mrs Holland and then Mrs Pearce. I remember taking it in turns with other kids to ring the hand held bell at the end of playtime (i real honour to us little ones). I also remember the old fire engine and the pots to play on. The hills and the woods (now crown wood estate) at the back of the school field. The geese especially Gladys and larry and lucy the two sheep. I learnt to swim in the pool a passed all my swimming badges right up to the Gold by the time i left in 1970. In fact my Dad did a spell as a lifeguard after school hours so we got to use the pool a lot more. I believe the pool was donated to the school by Sir Billy Butlin who had a grandson at the school although i don't remember him.
In the Juniors i was taught by Mr Gardner (who i have been in contact with recently).
Mrs Wilson and Mr Trerise. Mr Gardner was my favorite. Headmaster was Mr Bristow. My parents still live in Harmanswater so i pass the school most weeks when i visit. Enjoy your celebrations.

Hello to all at Harmans Water! First of all Happy Birthday from myself and my mum ( Mrs. Holtby ex. L.S.A)! We both miss Harmans Water. I think it's pretty safe to say that my mum and myself had the best time of our lives when we were there. Are you doing anything special for your 40th? I remember when we did the balloon launch in 1996 to celebrate becoming a Primary school. I better be going as I have lovely SAT's revision to do. I still remember having a hug from Ms. Barton when I had my year 6 SAT levels back! The memories!

I started the school in '64 and remember having a lot of fun, looking after the geese, sneaking over the back of the mud hills to play in the woods. My last classroom was in a partitioned off area in the main hall, which meant we had loads of study/play space. The trip to Chalbury was excellent. HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY.

I hope this gets back to you okay. I was a pupil from 1964 (indeed one of the first!) to 1968. My Dad had been in the RAF so we moved around a lot. Harmans Water was the first school I stayed at more than two years! I was really happy there - great teachers, (Mr Gardner, Mr Melson, Miss Reilly), (lovely school dinners, the Pots (more about this on the Friends reunited site if no-one has told you about them!), the swimming pool ( which was built while I was there I think). I will always remember having The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe read to us, learning maths with colour factor blocks, and music classes. Thanks to you all.

Congratulations on your 40th Celebrations and thank you Miss Hooley for contacting old pupils and informing us. I started Harmanswater School in 1973 and left in 1979, so I have many memories. One that stands out was when the School and Local Fire Brigade had a Fire Drill.
The alarm sounded and pupils and staff calmly walked out of the school and onto the field. Registers were taken and all were present, except one member of staff; Mr Sluman (sorry if I have mis-spelt your name)! This would not have been a worry as we knew that this was a 'Practise', but then we saw smoke billowing out of the changing rooms. Firemen rushed in, fully equiped with breathing masks and other scary equipment. After what seemed a life time but must have only been a few minutes, the Firemen came out of the school carrying a stretcher with Mr Sluman on it! The whole School exploded into a cheer (particularly us girls, we though Mr Sluman was 'Real Cool' and pretty Gorgeous to boot!). The Firemen finished their drill and Mr Sluman took a bow! Happy Days!

wow how time flies, I had a look around the old school a couple of years ago and remember thinking that it had aged somewhat. I think it is that I have such vivid memories of the school being all shiny and new as I went there from 1966-1972 shortly after it was built.

I lived in Segsbury Grove and so could easily walk to school. These days I feel sorry for all these kids who are bussed or driven in.

I have such fond memories of my time at Harmanswater, my first teacher was Mrs Webb, then Mrs McCulloch who were both lovely. In the Junior school we were taught by an Austrailan teacher called Mr Condie. Can't remember the other ones, Mrs Bennet or Randall rings a bell.

Of the playground I can remember the Fire Engine, Mud Hills, swimming pool, the Bee Hives, the Geese, the Sheep, the Fishpond, the cricket pavillion.

Of the school I can remember drinking warm milk in little bottles, swimming in the bath like temperatures of the indoor pool. In fact sometimes the steam was so bad in the pool that swimming was not allowed for safety reasons.

In the reception hall I can recall the fish tank, the stuffed Crocodile and Armadillo!

The caretaker was Mr Hall, he had an old Traction Engine that he used to give the kids rides on at the summer fetes.

The head master of the junior school was Mr Bristow and the Infants was Mrs Montgommery.

I would love to hear more about your celebrations and will try to think of some memories. One that comes to mind is of a study week in Swanage with Mrs Haynes (snr)!! she was so sweet and we really gave her the run around. Anyway say Hi to Mr Harris for me and let me know how you get on.

I have very fond memories of my time at Harmanswater school. I started in 1964, which was the year the school first opened. My first teacher was Miss Holland and it was her first year of teaching. I also remember a lovely teacher called Mr Gardener, who was probably my favourite. The Headmistress of the Infant school was Mrs Montgomery, who kindly gave me a lift home from school when I missed the bus.

I received an email from Miss Hooley regarding the 40th anniversary celebrations but have had great trouble in getting a message back to her. I have also sent an email to the school . Perhaps that has been more successful. I was never a pupil but a member of staff. In fact one of the four teachers who opened the school in 1964. Before leaving in 1970 I served as deputy head. Yesterday, I visited 6Yr. I had a really enjoyable time: I learnt how to structure a crime story, an easy way of converting lbs into kgs but best of all I joined in the jive session - my PE lessons were never that great. Thank you Yr 6.

After spending a day at the School on Monday, I was amazed to find out at lunch time when I was eating my dinner with Year 2&3, that if I started a food fight I would be sent to the Reason Room. I am glad now that I didn't start a food fight.
It was nice to speak to the children and I am proud to be a Governor at a school where the children are so polite.

hey what you lot up to? I just want 2 say its great at e.p (easthamstead park school) and at school I burnt my arm in cooking on a tray getting it out the oven. It really hurt I was making rock buns they were nice. In art I burnt my finger on a glue gun and I have had no after school d.t but lots at lunch times and breaks.
